The General Assistant position is quite a varied, hands on role and perfect for someone who wants to get stuck in and involved in all areas of the business. It’s likely each day will be different to the next depending on what is going on in the company. The position is largely based out the Milnthorpe showroom apart from alternate Saturdays where you will be working in the Lancaster showroom.

A recent customer wanted a family bathroom revamp but had a love for traditional, homely features too. Trying to keep this in mind we assisted the customer in choosing the right tiles for their project. They wanted something that wouldn’t look dated in a few years’ time but still wanted a striking feature in there too. Recently we had the pleasure of working with the lovely people from the Lunesdale Arms in Tunstall whilst they were refurbishing the pub. They came to us looking for some tiles for the ladies and gents’ restrooms. We were thrilled when the remit for this project was they wanted both restroom to look amazing but be totally different. Sometimes we feel some pubs and restaurants can really let themselves down through not putting the effort or thought into their facilities, as for some people, going to a pristine restroom can really set the tone for their whole experience in that establishment.Read more
Anhydrite screeds have become quite popular over the past couple of years as they have benefits over traditional sand and cement screeds which include low cost, minimal shrinking and self-levelling.
These screeds can cause problems for fixers if the floor isn’t prepared correctly, as an anhydrite screen dry’s a layer of laitance is formed on the surface. This layer of laitance needs to be mechanically removed before tiling as this layer is week and will debond from the base if it isn’t removed and tile will simply lift from the floor. The screed needs to fully dry before tiling can commence and removing the layer of laitance will help the screed dry quicker, a good guide to drying time is 1 day per mm up to 40mm in thickness in normal conditions, screeds thicker than 40mm allow 2 days per mm.Read more
