A recent customer wanted a family bathroom revamp but had a love for traditional, homely features too. Trying to keep this in mind we assisted the customer in choosing the right tiles for their project. They wanted something that wouldn’t look dated in a few years’ time but still wanted a striking feature in there too. We teamed a contemporary wall tile with a patterned floor tile, which is highly on-trend right now, to create an old meets new feel to the room.Read more

Recently we had the pleasure of working with the lovely people from the Lunesdale Arms in Tunstall whilst they were refurbishing the pub. They came to us looking for some tiles for the ladies and gents’ restrooms. We were thrilled when the remit for this project was they wanted both restroom to look amazing but be totally different. Sometimes we feel some pubs and restaurants can really let themselves down through not putting the effort or thought into their facilities, as for some people, going to a pristine restroom can really set the tone for their whole experience in that establishment.Read more
Anhydrite screeds have become quite popular over the past couple of years as they have benefits over traditional sand and cement screeds which include low cost, minimal shrinking and self-levelling.
These screeds can cause problems for fixers if the floor isn’t prepared correctly, as an anhydrite screen dry’s a layer of laitance is formed on the surface. This layer of laitance needs to be mechanically removed before tiling as this layer is week and will debond from the base if it isn’t removed and tile will simply lift from the floor. The screed needs to fully dry before tiling can commence and removing the layer of laitance will help the screed dry quicker, a good guide to drying time is 1 day per mm up to 40mm in thickness in normal conditions, screeds thicker than 40mm allow 2 days per mm.Read more

Well it’s that time of year again….. Christmas, the time of joy and happiness and for us here at Rees Tiles and Flooring what difference a year makes. This time last year we were busy cleaning up after storm Desmond totally wiped out our Lancaster showroom. So the start of 2016 was a really busy period for us as we had to rebuild the showroom and retile all of the displays, we managed to get reopen by the end of January which we thought was a pretty decent effort. We would like to again thank everyone who helped us get open so quickly with special thanks to Panararmer Kitchens who lent us some of their joiners to help with the rebuild and Keith the tiler who came and helped tile the displays.Read more
When you hear the words ‘vinyl flooring’ you immediately think of a thin, ill-fitting roll of vinyl with a ghastly pattern on that your elderly relatives had in their kitchen when you were little. However, the world of vinyl flooring has come on leaps and bound with all sorts on offer. Patchwork is hot, it’s been hot for a while and it’s getting hotter. This is one trend which doesn’t seem to be passing anytime soon. The continent is going crazy for patchwork and the UK is following suit.
So we looked at the popularity of this trend and have found some collections we love that are available in our showrooms. The beauty of patchwork is that it works on floors, on kitchen walls, in bathrooms and as feature panels…it’s such a versatile design. You might be thinking ‘oh patchwork, that’s brave!’ but fear not, we’ve got some in bold designs, and some subtle designs that are part of existing collections, they don’t all have to be wild and in-your-face colours.Read more
