Recently we had the pleasure of working with the lovely people from the Lunesdale Arms in Tunstall whilst they were refurbishing the pub. They came to us looking for some tiles for the ladies and gents’ restrooms. We were thrilled when the remit for this project was they wanted both restroom to look amazing but be totally different. Sometimes we feel some pubs and restaurants can really let themselves down through not putting the effort or thought into their facilities, as for some people, going to a pristine restroom can really set the tone for their whole experience in that establishment.
After discussing many different options with the Lunesdale Arms it was decided that the ladies would have a selection of different tiles. These would vary in sizes, colours and textures to create different contrasts from the walls to the floors, while also creating a stunning feature wall. Shark by Peronda Ceramica in Spain featured on the majority of the restroom walls. It is a large format, 45×90 tile with a semi polished finish and is available in three colours. It was decided The Lunesdale Arms would use the darkest shade which is the black; a large dark tile like this gives a really modern, contemporary feel to the room and this tile contrasts perfectly feature wall. The feature wall inside the cubical has the wow factor everyone loves, adrenaline strata black décor has been used in each cubical and looks fantastic. With its dark colouring and split faced stone effect it looks truly stunning, especially when the lights shine down onto the wall. Both wall tiles look incredible against the floor tile, which again is from Peronda Ceramica and is a wood effect tile but one with a difference. The Foresta Benton has a unique look as there are shades of blues, beiges and browns all together and it really contrasts against the walls whilst still pulling out colours of the walls in the floor.
The gents’ restroom at the Lunesdale couldn’t be any more different to the ladies, the gents has a much more traditional feel by using smaller 15x15cm patchwork tiles with classic blue patterns. The tiles are called Tavira from Mainzu Ceramica in Spain and they have a cushioned edge just to give a bit more effect. The floor tile in the gents is the matt version of the 45x90cm main wall tile used in the ladies. The Shark Black tile works in harmony with the wall tiles in the Gents and we felt it was nice to have a least one tile the same between the ladies and gents just to tie the two rooms together.
Here at Rees Tiles we believe The Lunesdale Arms have created something really stunning by using different textures and effect, along with the patchwork effect tiles. It will certainly last the test of time and sets the tone of what a quality establishment they are. We were thrilled to be part of it.
