Teen Bathroom, Lancaster
Earlier this year we took on a big project at home: an extension to give our growing family a little more breathing space. It’s all wrapped up now (thankfully!) but for six months we lived through dust, noise and the full “building-site chic” experience. The goal was simple - add an extra bedroom area - but that meant reworking the old family bathroom too. Instead of just patching it up, we decided to rethink the space completely and create something that would genuinely work for our boys as they get older.
Out went the old bath, and in came a wet-room style setup that instantly opened up the room and gave us far more freedom with the layout. We wanted something bold and modern, so we leaned into deep grey tones paired with black fixtures from VADO and Tissino, plus sleek gloss-grey furniture by RAK Ceramics.
For the walls, we chose Dreamy Road by Museum Surfaces in a 60×120cm high-gloss finish - great for bouncing light around and keeping the space feeling bright despite the darker palette. The Dreamy collection comes in three other colours and in both matt and gloss, if you’re exploring options, you can read more here. The remaining walls are tiled in Chicago Road (now discontinued), also by Museum Surfaces, and we continued Dreamy Road onto the floor in a matt finish. Both collections are 60×120cm, a format that’s hugely popular for creating that clean, contemporary look. We used Kerakoll Fugalite grout which is a resin-based grout, available in a variety of colours and shades, so it wasn’t hard to find one that complimented the tiles.
We also pushed the design a little further by installing black sanitaryware - not just basin, taps and radiators, but a full black toilet too. Paired with the black shower-screen frame and the black-trimmed mirror, everything ties together seamlessly. Our decorator even suggested a black ceiling, and surprisingly, it brings the whole scheme together beautifully.
Now the boys have a bathroom that will easily take them through their teenage years: a spacious walk-in shower, underfloor heating, a heated radiator, and absolutely no excuses for not hanging up their towels. Tiling and plumbing were expertly handled by Lancaster Heating and Bathrooms, with fixtures and fittings supplied by Panararmer Ltd.
