Tile Talk

J is for Jewel

We couldn’t do an A-Z without talking about a bit of sparkle and bling. It’s not something that we get asked as much for at the moment as current trends seem to be more about continuity of the same tile collection throughout, but we still love a jewelled mosaic. A perfect addition to a bathroom or kitchen for those of us with an inner Magpie! A particularly versatile product due to the flexibility gained by the mesh backing, allowing for use on shaped and curved surfaces as well as flat. To make the application of mosaics on flat surfaces even easier we recommend using mosaic mesh. This mesh is self-adhesive and sticks to the reverse of the mosaic keeping all your mosaic straight and in place, ensuring a perfect, symmetrical finish.

Jewelled mosaics are perfect for use on large areas of wall and smaller areas within the home, like a kitchen splashback or bathroom borders to add a bit of colour and sparkle. There’s obviously lots of mosaics on offer out there but if you’re after a mosaic that catches the eye then a jewel mosaic fits the bill. Quite often the jewels are subtle, worked in with other pieces of stone, glass or metal, but enough to get that bit of sparkle you might be looking for.

You can install jewel mosaics in a variety of ways depending on the budget. Vertical or horizontal borders, a border panning around the whole room, a panel of mosaic or a complete feature wall…the possibilities are endless. To gain the most impact, a full feature wall or full width panels would be worth considering but these can be quite costly. Alternatively, using a 3 stone wide band around the room as a border, or running several strips up vertically is a more cost-effective approach to bring mosaics into a bathroom.

In a nutshell, mosaics create a focal point that draws the eye in, especially the glittery, jewel sort. So, make a statement and go bold with your designs and add some sparkle in to your life!
