Position: General Assistant
Contract: Full Time & Permanent
Location: Milnthorpe Showroom
Hours: 5 days a week consisting of 4 weekdays 8am – 5.30pm and Saturday 9am – 3pm/10am – 4pm (depending on location).
Wage/Salary: £20’000 PA

The General Assistant position is quite a varied, hands on role and perfect for someone who wants to get stuck in and involved in all areas of the business. It’s likely each day will be different to the next depending on what is going on in the company. The position is largely based out the Milnthorpe showroom apart from alternate Saturdays where you will be working in the Lancaster showroom.

As mentioned, this position is quite varied, so you’ll have to visit distribution customers from time to time and occasionally work in the warehouse or do some delivery driving. The job is split into 3 elements, all integral to the smooth running of the business;

The first element is working in the Milnthorpe showroom where you’ll be involved in the day to day running of the business. It is very people focused and you will be in regular contact with members of public and tradespeople, both on the phone and face to face. Tradespeople send their customers in to select tiles from our showroom as well as come in for supplies themselves. You will be required to assist retail customer in choosing tiles for their project so it’s important that you have an eye for what looks aesthetically pleasing. You’ll also be required to use a computer daily when completing tasks such as emailing, creating invoices and placing orders. Alongside this it is also important that we keep the showroom looking clean and tidy so that we look like a professional company that’s organised. The same duties apply for any work you do in our Lancaster showroom.

The second element of this position is helping to maintaining the distribution side of the business which covers the whole of the North-West area. Our distribution customers see the Milnthorpe Showroom as the hub of our business, directing all calls and emails to it. It’s imperative that we act quickly to solve any queries they might have like prices, stock levels and process orders. It’s a busy environment and things can sometime move at a fast pace so being able to effectively plan your time and tasks is very important.

The third element is where is gets a bit more variable as this the merchandising side to the business. Rees Tiles have tiled displays in both  of our showrooms and hese need updating when collections are discontinued. The General Assistant will be involved with the updating of displays – you do not need to be a tiler to do these, we use hot glue guns and silicone for displays (full training will be given). As we distribute all over the North West you will be required to go to some of our distribution shops to update their displays using the same methods. A company van will be provided for these instances.
